NOVEMBER 15 - DECEMBER 15, 2017 Issue

This issue looks at Enzo Cucchi’s Fountain of the Two Suns installed at the port of Ancona. A meticulously crafted work of functional art utilising, with a sense of modesty and discretion, a setting that is in daily operation, thereby combining aesthetic appeal with practicality.

The other project featured this month is the People’s Leasing and Finance office building on Havelock Road in Colombo. It combines multifarious structural elements with environmentally-friendly features; and has created a warm and elegant interior ambience that is friendly and welcoming to customers while affording the necessary privacy to staff.

Teaching of Architecture in Europe is spotlighted under Confetti, an analysis by Spanish architect Francisco Mangado looking into the teaching and practice of architecture, a reflection of the society we live in. A Way of Working explores Giulio Iacchetti’s work and his belief that “good design is an act of disobedience and that a designer’s duty is to give objects dignity”.

Feedback trains its focus on the architecture of Moratuwa, a coastal suburb of Colombo that showcases its heritage of buildings that feature diverse influences.
